Mike Greene is unlikely to take a back seat any time soon. Having just led a £ 25 million takeover of Morrisons convenience store
business, M Local, retirement is the last thing on the
mind of this shopper marketing guru and former
NACS international board member. “For me,
retirement would be stopping doing something that
you don’t want to do, but for me retail doesn’t feel like
work …What I love doing in retail is as much a part of
me as my family or anything I do personally,” he says.
As he progressed through his career, Greene
acquired and harnessed the power to transform retail
businesses. “It just became a part of who I am,” he
says. Greene further expanded his portfolio when
he joined the development team at Spar’s 8 Till Late
format, led by John Irish, which was a trailblazer in
the U. K. convenience market with extended opening
hours and fresh ways of working.
Honing His Skills
From there, Greene sharpened his skills at major oil
companies and became immersed in the psychology
and science of store marketing and its role in
influencing shopper behavior. His experience all fed
neatly into Him!, the shopper marketing agency, that
U.K. convenience retail veteran and entrepreneur Mike Greene is back in the saddle after acquiring
140 c-stores from Morrisons.
